50 Years of Brutalist Architecture and Community Life at Grahame Park Estate

Grahame Park Estate named after Claude Grahame-White is a Brutalist style housing estate built in the 70s on the site of the old Hendon Aerodrome in NW London. The estate was built as a collaboration between the GLC and Barnet Council with the aim to provide quality and affordable housing and has housed a diverse population throughout the years with roots in East-London, Ireland and immigrants from various countries and cultures all over the world meeting and living together on the estate.

Many people have fond memories of growing up at GP, but the estate has become known for being an unsafe, run down area. But there is more to know about Grahame Park Estate than the rather biased perception which has become synonymous with its name. A community exhibition with an interesting collection of photos and drawings about Grahame Park Estate at Saint Augustine's Church shines a more favourable light on the Brutalist architecture, cultural diversity and community life of the people who have been living at Grahame Park throughout the years.

The exhibition will be on display at St.Augustine’s Church Colindale in June 2023 and will be free to visit on weekdays from 15.30pm - 18.00pm and on weekends from 12 noon - 18.00 pm. The opening event is planned for Saturday 3 June 14.00 - 16.00 with an introductory talk and music.
