commons
/ˈkɒmənz/
land or resources belonging to or affecting the whole of a community
A Call to the Commons is a public art and architecture project that builds on the LFA 2023 theme ‘In Common’.
The high street is an urban-commons and its role is changing fast. We are in a period of testing and prototyping new models of living and working in a post pandemic world, models that call us to question our ideas about how we use and occupy our public spaces, ownership, and protest.
Through this project we use street media to explore the notion of the commons through 6 newly commissioned posters by artists, architects and designers installed on billboards, fly posters and digital screens across London.
On the evening of 20th June we will be hosting a panel event to gain an insight into the themes behind each of the 6 artworks produced. A Q&A session will follow and we will debate the notion of the ‘urban commons’. The evening will end with drinks, nibbles and an opportunity to mingle in a light and airy setting, perfect for a summer evening with plenty of food for thought!
Join us and our talented guests for a very special evening at ING-Media, 21 Curtain Rd, London EC2A 3LT. You will be hearing from:
Sam Jacob, Sam Jacob Studio
Tanya von Preussen, vPPR
Issi Nanabeyin, artist and designer
Hikaru Nissanke, OMMX
Sarah Castle, IF_DO
Simon Roberts, visual artist
Commissioned by Aldo Rinaldi and Rumi Bose, and sponsored by Build Hollywood and Cross River Partnership
