A Place Bears The Name

01 June - 29 June

The gallery is open Thursday to Saturday 11am-5pm or by prior appointment

Functioning as a visual essay, A Place Bears The Name is an art exhibition that explores the social and psychological effects of the ruins found within the locally situated Crystal Palace Park. As a symbol of British imperialism and of global trade; the lasting trace of The Great Exhibition becomes a gateway into ideas of collective amnesia, colonial memory and national melancholia.

Artist duo Sam Wills and Lydia Porter explore this public and common space of historical significance through a contemporary lens, investigating the long-term effects of the spectre of an empire that is felt but not seen.
