Responding to the theme of ‘In Common’, artist Becky Lyon exhibits a new piece of work “Collage / Commons” reflecting her engagement with the ecology of London through its airs, soils, waters and lifeforms as an alternative to its civic boundaries and borders.
The piece takes the form of a deconstructed map of the Barnet Plateau, the geographic name for an area of the city spanning, and more commonly known as the boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Harrow, Ealing and Hillingdon.
It zooms in on its stony, soily, planty, fungal 'fleshy’ textures as a way of highlighting connection, community and commonality with the land and the species we co-habit with.
Croydon-born Becky is a practicing artist living and working in Colindale. She is volunteer London National Park City Ranger for Barnet (Plateau!) and is grounder of Ground Provisions an artist-led, schooled-by-the-forest for grown-ups.
Join Becky for a walk’n’workshop exploring these themes on Sunday 4th June
