On this tour Camden Guide and local resident Richard will show you the Ragged Schools, mean streets and rookeries of old Hatton Garden, a part of London that inspired several scenes from Dickens' Oliver Twist. You will see how people of this area worked together to solve problems they had in common to improve their housing, education and health care. You will learn about successive waves of immigration into the area. All this is set in a few historic streets full of stories going back to Roman and medieval times. We will hear about the different communities that have lived and worked in Hatton Garden over the centuries and the trades and industries that make this area famous. This is a walk for young and old alike.
This is a charity fundraiser. All proceeds will go the Disasters Emergency Committee Humanitarian Appeal for Ukraine.
