A guided walk, inspired by the '15 minute city', taking in public buildings and green spaces that are easily accessible, free and held 'in common'. Brigid, one of the Community Plot volunteers, will lead the tour: starting at Derwent Medical Centre and ending at Whetstone Stray Allotments. This is usually a 15 minute walk but we will take 45 minutes, to take in the places and history 'in common' in this area. We will explore the public rights of way which date back to the days when this was farm land, the site of the Horse Hospital, and the park kiosk featured in a Monty Python sketch!
The journey finishes at the Community Plot @ Whetstone, where local artist Becky Lyon will be showing a new work as part of a sculpture trail for LFA. This work responds to the habitats for insects, and amphibians, including toads and slowworms, which have been made at the Community Plot. Together, we want to show how suburban Barnet is still shared with our other-than-human neighbours. Refreshments will be available.
