"If there is a future, it will be green." - Petra Kelly
As our need to build is set to only increase, so too will the clash between people and nature. But what if they didn’t have to and the meeting of these two worlds were in fact to cooperate? And what if, unbeknownst to us, this was already happening - beneath our feet, above our heads and all around us? Indeed, our buildings can and do offer a world of opportunities for entire ecosystems!
Our Suburban Safari uncovers the hidden corners of our ‘shared’ spaces and reveals how nature has embraced the parts of our world we may have built, but long forgotten about.
This walk on the wild-side is no ‘guided tour’ – our intrepid explorers are encouraged to get amongst the weeds, look deep into the cracks between bricks and use all their senses to discover the natural world within our urban environment.
Concluding with a hands-on workshop, visitors can put their new knowledge to good use by designing their own wild habitats, planting wildflower seeds and building bird/bee boxes. Refreshments will be available to all at no cost.
