The Gramer Haor Co_Lab began in 2019 to support the sustainable growth of the village of Kazirgaon in Bangladesh. Kazirgaon was growing rapidly in haphazard, unsustainable ways without planning. To tackle these issues, an international partnership was formed between Eccles Ng from Birmingham City University, Kawshik Saha from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, and Abubokkar Siddiki, a British Bangladeshi architect.
Support from The Prince’s Foundation and the use of its Rapid Planning Toolkit (RPT) were integral to the Co Lab studio. The RPT is a four-step process designed to guide a multidisciplinary approach in the inclusive planning and design of growing cities and towns.
The Co_Lab continues to apply the RPT in Bangladesh working with university students and all stakeholders to learn through a live project.
This exhibition developed with the students explores the site, tells the stories of local residents, and looks at solutions developed using the RPT.
