Highlighting the potential of "the commons," this Greening the Public Realm event will be hosted by CDA, Camden Council, contractors Idverde and designers LDA. The landmark Princes Circus public space, part of Camden’s West End project, now connects Covent Garden and St Giles to Bloomsbury and beyond to the British Museum. Princes Circus is one of many new green and public spaces created by Camden Council as part of the West End Project which has transformed the Tottenham Court Road area: making streets safer, improving local air quality and making it easier to get around on foot, by bus or by cycling. At Princes Circus the rejuvenated public realm scheme has reassigned traffic and removed sections of Bloomsbury Street and Shaftesbury Avenue to reclaim those spaces for people to relax and enjoy. The design has created better walking connections and a place to admire the surrounding iconic architecture and monuments. A showcase and walk-through of the space will celebrate clearer pavements, a safer cycling route and an attractive, richly planted square with new and retained mature trees.
