Jean Franco presents Talking About Trees (2019) dir. Suhaib Gasmelbari 93"
After years of distance and exile, a group of Sudanese friends and filmmakers are reunited, hoping to finally make their old dream come true: to bring back cinema to Sudan by reopening a dilapidated theatre in Khartoum.
Curated by Jean Franco, one of the successful applicants to Brixton Community Cinema's open call.
Talking About Trees:
Filmmakers Ibrahim, Suliman, Eltayeb and Manar, close friends for many years, left their motherland in the sixties and seventies to study film abroad and founded the Sudanese Film Group in 1989. After years of distance and exile, they are reunited, hoping to finally make their old dream come true: to bring back cinema to Sudan by reopening the Halfaia Cinema, a dilapidated theater in Khartoum.
This event is part of wider programme of activity animating the Views on the Atlantic project in collaboration with LFA and supported by Lambeth Council and Brixton BID.
