‘Love Letters to the Buildings’ Free Exhibition Tour – Golden Lane

17 June 2023

12:00 -13:00

From artist-curator Sal Pittman, ’Love Letters to the Buildings’ celebrates the history of London College of Fashion (LCF), UAL with a range of engaging and innovative audio-visual and found-object installations inspired by psychogeographic and archival-led research, in a grand bidding-farewell to some of LCF’s buildings ahead of our move to East Bank, part of Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, in September 2023.

Join us at Golden Lane on Saturday 17rd June at 12noon for a free exhibition tour led by artist-curator Sal Pittman and London College of Fashion MA student and curatorial researcher of ‘Love Letters to the Buildings’, Sandra Titus.

In August 2000 Cordwainers College merged with LCF, a specialist school for leather working, shoemaking and saddlery which was originally founded in 1887 and now lives at Golden Lane. Cordwainers are shoemakers who practices their trade for centuries within the walls of the City of London, some of these shoes from the Cordwainers Collection are now on show at the building alongside an installation of an imaginary Cordwainers office, a tribute to the technicians who dedicated their craft and skills to the education of Cordwainers. The building is a former school, and the playground would have been on the rood so the children could play further away from the smog that engulfed London. Rumour has it that the house on the rooftop was the temporary office for Bon Geldof’s Live Aid, a historic charity concert in 1985.
