‘Love Letters to the Buildings’ Free Exhibition Tour – Mare Street

17 June 2023

14:30 -15:30

From artist-curator Sal Pittman, ’Love Letters to the Buildings’ celebrates the history of London College of Fashion (LCF), UAL with a range of engaging and innovative audio-visual and found-object installations inspired by psychogeographic and archival-led research, in a grand bidding-farewell to some of LCF’s buildings ahead of our move to East Bank, part of Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, in September 2023.
Join us at Mare Street on Saturday 17th June at 2:30pm for a free exhibition tour led by artist-curator Sal Pittman and exhibition co-producer and co-curator Mirren Kessling.
The building was a former school for girls founded by Lady Eleanor Holles in 1710 before becoming the Cordwainers College then London College of Fashion. The first botany bed was created at Mare Street in 1908 for teaching when it was a school, and there are currently beds of plants for producing natural dyes which were introduced in 2011. It’s considered one of the most beautiful of the LCF spaces, out on its own and some say feels like ‘a proper art school’, you can experience testimony recounting courses such as saddlery, tailoring and design who worked alongside one another.
