More in Common – the Changing Face of Fleet Street

01 June 2023

18:00 -20:00

Located between the City of London to the East and the West End, Fleet Street has, historically, been the home of print and law, mediating those very public and private worlds with a mix of significant buildings in close proximity.

Now, a new zeitgeist is emerging in this peculiar and beautiful area of London, with a complex mix of creative industries and businesses driving a new era of development. How do you preserve the legacy and rich traditions of the area, whilst adapting spaces and buildings for new uses and contemporary purpose? How do you ensure that individual building projects fit into a coherent whole and that buildings, in the interest of community, are good neighbours?

Join Ben Adams Architects, Fleet Street Quarter, the Northbank and St Bride Foundation for a fascinating walking tour of the area, outlining the overarching ambition for the area, and some of the individual buildings and new public realm which will typify its transformation including Brettenham House, 180 Fleet Street and 200 The Strand.

We will begin the walking tour at Brettenham House on the North bank of Waterloo Bridge and cross through the new public realm at the Strand Aldwych, then winding our way through the length of Fleet Street. We will alight at St Bride after the walk for a complimentary drink and the opportunity to talk about the history and future of this characterful Central London district.
