Soft power, common ground: what can London learn from the world’s cities?

14 June 2023

18:00 -20:00

Whether Manhattan’s iconic skyline or Paris’ uniform, Haussmannian boulevards, the built environment – and the approach to creating and caring for it – plays an integral part in the way we experience and respond to cities. How does London use places and spaces to maximise its soft power on the world stage? What can it learn from its neighbours? And how do you quantify ‘soft power’ anyway?

Following the publication of ING’s ‘Europe’s Most Talked About Cities’ research, this session will feature voices from across the global built environment for a free-flowing, collaborative discussion on architecture’s place in the soft power conversation and how it’s leveraged the world over.

Speakers:
Andy Young, Partner, BIG
Helen Santer, Interim Assistant Director, Economy and Inward Investment, London Borough of Lambeth
Kirsten Lees, Partner, Grimshaw
Sherry Dobbin, Cultural Advisor, SRD Culture
Leanne Tritton, Executive Chair, ING Media and Chair, The London Society (chair)
