This 3-mile morning stroll (10am – 12.30pm) will start at East Finchley Underground station and finish at Golders Hill Park Café. This will introduce the architecture and town planning of Hampstead Garden Suburb and explore the associated open spaces.
The walk will be led by local historian, retired town planner and Chair of the Barnet Green Spaces Network, Roger Chapman. We will examine part of "the aesthetically most satisfactory and socially most successful of all C20 garden suburbs". (Pevsner.) We will also look at the main open spaces within the suburb, themselves historic, which link our walk thinking about the common themes that have developed this aesthetic and their relevance today.
A maximum of 20 places are available on the walk. To reserve a place please use the Eventbrite link.
Toilets and seats for an occasional rest are available on route but a reasonable level of fitness is required for these suburban strolls.
