Waterloo – station; destination; shared aspiration.

28 June 2023

18:00 -20:00

This event will focus on the fascinating area of Waterloo and the response of its diverse communities to its constant evolution.
The proposed Station Masterplan represents a fantastic opportunity to improve the experience of passengers passing through this busy transport hub, but how will this, and other major developments, integrate with and enhance the experiences of the people who inhabit, rather than just pass through, this unusual part of London?
With a rich arts scene, independent businesses, an engaged and active resident population and a growing commercial offer through new developments by the station, Waterloo’s richness is in its diversity. A new placemaking strategy is attempting to harness this. However, its physical layout has also held it back, with the station itself providing a natural block to movement and investment.
Our panel discussion will explore the opportunities on offer and how to establish common ground to ensure everyone benefits.

Chair: Helen Santer, Build Studios
Panellists: Natalie Raben, WeAreWaterloo BID; Tara Gbolade, Gbolade Design Studios; Kirsten Lees, Grimshaw; Alessia Montero, Lambeth Council; Alice Jardine, Stanhope Plc; Felicity Maries, local resident and formerly Oasis Waterloo.
