#johnremembers – A Personal View of London’s Architecture is the culmination of a month long Instagram competition bringing together creative champions from across the design community and members of the public to reveal the stories behind London’s architecture.
The challenge was to post an image of a building, detail or view online with a caption on the memory it holds for the writer. The best of these, alongside special contributions from the likes of Peter Murray, Sarah Mann, Laura Marks and Bompas and Parr now line the walls of Dreamspace Gallery, Clerkenwell.
The launch party, hosted by John Robertson Architects on 22nd June, was a lively get together marking the end of the competition and the start of the three week long display. The exhibition echoes the Instagram grid style with bold exploded images and square postcards which can be picked off the wall by visitors to reveal quotes and memories beneath. It is intended to be interactive and ever changing, much like the city itself. The largest image belongs to the competition winner – an eye-catching composition from Martyn Clarke with the personal story featured alongside.
Clarke’s win was announced on the evening to a crowd of contributors, clients and staff who went on to enjoy drinks and networking against the backdrop of the exhibition.
The exhibition is on until 14th July at Dreamspace, Clerkenwell. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.
